The Impact of Child Marriage on Young Egyptian Girls
Tadwein for Gender Studies has also exerted tremendous efforts to combat child marriage in Egypt with the aim to raise awareness of community about the harmful impacts of child marriages on the lives of young girls in urban greater Cairo and rural areas in Fayoum. Through this project, Tadwein for Gender Studies was able to conduct a study in urban greater Cairo and rural areas in Fayoum among 42 women who were married before 18 years of age. As a result of this study, Tadwein for Gender Studies was able to identify the drivers and consequences of child marriage in Egypt. Through this project, Tadwein for Gender Studies was also able to conduct training for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) within the target areas to enhance their understanding of the risks of child marriage and gender-based violence (GBV). A series for of awareness workshops for 120 married couples and underage unmarried girls was also conducted. An online awareness campaign #Her dream is more important was also launched to advocate against the practice of child marriage and developed a study report on the consequences of child marriage.
