Ending Violence Against Girls and Women

Press Release about Launching “The Story did not End” Campaign

Tadwein for Gender Studies announces the launch of a campaign (#Acid_Attacks #The Story_did_not_end) during the sixteen international days of activism against gender-based violence (November 25th to December 10th, 2017). The aim of the campaign is to shed light on the crime of mutilating women’s bodies with incendiary materials or acid as a form of violence against women, as this crime is not looked at and has no official statistics are available, and there are no laws criminalizing it. It is worth noting that this crime is not yet defined in the Egyptian Penal Code. It is included in the beating crimes that are regulated by Articles 240, 241, and 242 of the Penal Code.

In 2017, Tadwein for Gender Studies in collaboration conducted a series of training workshops to promote women’s and girls’ digital security. These trainings targeted 150 female survivors of violence, journalists, and female activists in 15 Egyptian governorates. Tadwein’s manual on digital security was used in delivering these trainings. The training manual allowed the trainees to differentiate between the different browsers, understand the basics of developing online accounts, understand types of anti-viruses and malware, and protection of social media accounts.
The training manual included information on the different browsers, principles of establishing accounts opening secure actions, types of anti-viruses and malware and how to protect the social media accounts

A press release in response to a statement by a Parliament member regarding female genital mutilation

On Monday, July 11, 2016, we were surprised by the statement of Dr Ahmed El-Tahawy, a member of the Egyptian Parliament. He stressed the necessity of female circumcision, in response to a memorandum regarding the toughening of the penalty for female circumcision presented by the National Population Council. The words of the representative were shocking and unfair to Egyptian women, who are exposed to psychological, physical, and sexual harm as a result of this bad habit.
