Necessity, not a Luxury Campaign

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Tadwein for Gender Studies launched “Necessity, not a Luxury” campaign to the shed light on the issue of period poverty and raise awareness about the risks associated with not using sanitary pads due to their high cost.

Child Marriage in Egypt: Determinants and Consequences

The study aims to contribute to the existing literature body on the impact of child marriage on development in Egypt. The aim of the study was to assist policymakers and relevant entities in better designing policies and interventions aiming to end child marriage in Egypt. The most important results of the study showed that the concept of the vest is one of the strongest motives for child marriage. One of the most important recommendations of the study is the development of multi-sectoral approaches and partnerships, given the multiple consequences of child marriage.

“Her Dream is More Important” Booklet

The illustrative booklet tells the story of four women (who got married at a very young age) that Tadwein for Gender Studies met up with during their fieldwork in Egypt to study Early and Child Marriage. This booklet was executed and printed with the support of the Spanish Cooperation in Egypt.

A Meeting to Launch the Study “Child Marriage in Egypt: Determinants and Consequences” Study

In accordance with the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, Tadwein for Gender Studies organized a meeting to launch a new study entitled “Child Marriage in Egypt: Determinants and Consequences “. The meeting was held on the 28th of November, 2022. The Director of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, representatives of women’s and human rights organizations, civil associations, women’s and youth initiatives, and some funding agencies participated in this meeting. They presented the main findings and recommendations of the study.

Press Release About Launching “We are Killed Because We are Women” Campaign

Tadwein for Gender Studies launched a campaign “Killed Because They Were Women” to shed light on the issue of femicide in Egypt. During this campaign, the results of a study conducted by Tadwein for Gender Studies documenting a total of 151 cases of murder and suicide of women and girls from different age groups during the period from October 2021 to October 2022 were disseminated.

Press Release to launch “Speak Out Your Pain” Campaign

WHO defines FGM as the partial or complete removal of the external reproductive parts or other injuries to female reproductive parts for non-medical reasons. This crime is internationally known as “Female Genital Mutilation” which speaks volumes of the type of human rights violations that young girls are exposed to, as well as the type of physical and mental torments that befall them as a result of the partial or complete cutting of organs that have vital and important functions for their physical, psychological and reproductive health.

Don’t Touch Me Campaign

With the frequent incidents of child sexual abuse lately in Egypt, Tadwein for Gender Studies launched the campaign titled “Don’t Touch Me”. The main aim of the campaign was to raise awareness on the issue of sexual child abuse and how to deal with children subjected to this crime.

“Harvest Season” Campaign

Tadwein for Gender Studies has launched the “Harvest Season” campaign during the school vacation in four governorates namely Qalubiyah, Behira, Fayoum, and Giza. The main aim of the campaign was to decrease the chances of young girls being circumcised during school vacations. This campaign targeted all community members of different age groups with a special focus on women, men, youth, teachers, parents, and school children.

Gender Equality Training: Consultative Meeting

On the 20th of April 2022, Tadwein for Gender Studies held a consultative meeting with local partners and activists in the gender field to discuss the content of the online training course on “Gender Equality”. As the training is designed to be delivered through a digitalized platform “El-Madrasa”, the meeting also discussed how to maximize the usage of this platform to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about the different GBV issues in and outside Egypt.

Press Release “International Women Day”

Since 1909, International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrates women’s achievements in all spheres of life and calls for gender equality. Part of the incentive for IWD came when thousands of women took to the streets in New York City to demonstrate against the unreasonable conditions of women in the clothing industry. The strike was a response to low wages, sexual harassment, and a lack of protection. A century later, women still face those same challenges.
