In 2017, Tadwein Center for Gender Studies launched a campaign on social media platforms about the crime of mutilating the bodies of women with incendiary materials or acid as a form of violence against women, as this crime is a silent crime, in which no official statistics are available on its rates. It is worth noting that this crime is not explicitly stated in Egyptian law yet, and it is mitigated by including it among the beatings crimes that are regulated by Articles 240, 241, and 242 of the Egyptian Penal Code, despite the physical, psychological and social harms it causes, which are difficult to treat.
