Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Health Caravans

Introduction

Tadwein for Gender Studies organize health caravans in several governorates aiming to raise awareness about concept of female genital mutilation and how to combat this harmful traditional practice. Such caravans are usually accompanied with provision of several medical investigations such as tests blood sugar & blood pressure measurement, osteoporosis, eyes, and early detection of breast cancer.

Giza Governorate(saqiat makiy)

A health caravan was conducted in Sakiet Makki area, Giza governorate on February 18th 2020, in collaboration with Federation of Medical Students in Egypt IFMSA-EGYPT and two local CBOs ‘Specific Union to Combat Harmful Practices’ and ‘Hard Work Association’. Different community members (women, men and youth) made use of the medical services provided. An awareness session about FGM and its health complications was delivered. The total number of beneficiaries were more than 270.

Qalyubia Governorate

A medical caravan was conducted in Kafr Aboul Gheit, Al Qanater Charity Center, Qalyubia Governorate, on June 13th 2022 in cooperation with the Youth Association for Local Community Development. Different members of the community (women, men and youth) benefited from the medical services provided. Also an n awareness session about female genital mutilation (FGM), its health complications, and the risks of child marriage is also provided. More than 223 community members attended the event.

Giza Governorate(Zawiat Dahshur)

A medical caravan was conducted in Zawiat Dahshur, Giza Governorate, on August 4th 2022 in cooperation with the Happy Future Association. Different members of the community (women, men and youth) benefited from the medical services provided. Also an n awareness session about female genital mutilation (FGM), its health complications, and the risks of child marriage is also provided. More than 250 community members attended the event.
