{"id":11702,"date":"2021-06-14T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2021-06-14T09:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tadwein.org\/?p=2499"},"modified":"2024-03-26T21:11:44","modified_gmt":"2024-03-26T21:11:44","slug":"2499","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tadwein.org\/en\/2499\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release about Launching &#8220;Endless Pain Against FGM&#8221; Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>14<sup>th<\/sup> June, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Endless Pain is a campaign launched by Tadwein for Gender Studies in conjunction with the National Day Against Female Genital Mutilation on June 14.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Female genital mutilation, as defined by the United Nations, is \u201call procedures that involve the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or another injury to the female genital organs for cultural or other non-medical reasons.\u201d It is a crime against girls and women.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Despite the criminalization of this practice and recent Egyptian Penal Code amendments, which stated that anyone who performs female circumcision shall be punished with imprisonment for periods ranging from 5 years to maximum rigorous imprisonment between 7 and 10 years in case of permanent disability or death. In addition, the medical staff, whether doctor or nurse, who performs female circumcision, shall be subjected to rigorous imprisonment for a period ranging from 5 to 15 years, in the event of permanent disability or death.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This law was keen to punish and imprison anyone who requested female circumcision for the victim. The law also provided for the imprisonment of anyone who promoted, encouraged, or advocated in any way to commit such a crime, even if the action had no effect.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">However, there are always distortions and circumventions of the law. There is also a group that promotes, encourages, and supports female circumcision crime based on deceptive and false motives and justifications that have no medical or religious basis.
