Violence among the Youth in Urban Poor Greater Cairo

This project aims to study violence among young people in urban poor Cairo through conducting a research study. The objectives of the study are to identify different forms, determinants and consequences of violence on young people, and the different tactics they developed to resist it. The study was conducted in 22 poor areas within greater Cairo and targeted young people between the ages (18-35) years old. The findings of the study will assist in developing several policy briefs, that is to be presented to policymakers in Egypt regarding the development and implementation of relevant strategies to reduce violence in urban poor areas.

The project also included additional activities in the governorates of Cairo (Helwan and Manshyat Nasr), Giza (Atfeeh) and Qaliubiya ( El Qanater El Khayreya),

1- capacity building workshops for 10 partner CBOs. These workshops included raising awareness regarding early marriage, gender-based violence and training on how to conduct a community assessment, how to design and implement strategies to influence target groups and how to address harmful social issues in their communities.

2- Training media personnel on the results of the research and how to utilize it and advocate against youth violence.

3- Update the Gender-Map and include additional NGOs from different Egyptian governorates.
